- Recovers from 20 tonnes an hour of
oil or floating chemicals.
- Force 5 equipment is tailor made
depending on where it is used and what it is used for.
- All equipment can be installed using
a special quick release system so that the vessel can be
used for other purposes.
- OPEC can
supply custom built vessels and all ancilliary equipment
if needed.
The Force 5, counter pollution vessel
is made up of specially designed retrofitted oil recovery
equipment so that the vessel can be used cost-effectively
for a multitude of purposes.
- General work boat duties
- Buoy handling
- Fire Fighting
- Emergency oil spill response
Force 5 is designed for use in harbours,
docks and Estuaries to respond to general spills, such as
drainage from factories and other outlets, ships slops and
general pollution from fish oils, lubricating oils, diesel
fuels etc, which occur in the docks and harbours. Force
5 is also equipped to respond to larger oil spills in docks
and harbours, recovering in excess of 20 tonnes of oil an
hour.
Primary Equipment
E-Series Mop Skimmer System
 |
|
Based on the highly successful
E-Series system an E-900 mop skimmer is fitted to
a catamaran work boat. Can be used with or without
booms to corral the oil.
The E-900 is stored above a hinged
trap door which is roped to the safety railing. When
the mop is deployed onto the water surface the guide
rollers are set into position using a lever.
|
OM-Series Mop Skimmer System
 |
|
An OM12 (Ocean Mop) skimming module
is deployed from the side of the vessel via an onboard
crane to collect the oil on the water surface. Used
in conjunction with booms, this is a vertically deployed
‘multi-mop’ skimmer system. It is self-contained
with a metal storage container for storing skimmer
heads, an oil transfer pump, a diesel driven power
pack, an operator console and all umbilicals - including
hydraulic hoses and oil transfer hoses and clips.
|
Series 5000 Chain Belt System
 |
|
A series 5000 chain belt skimming
device used in a very similar way to the E-Series
module for use in extreme conditions where the oil
is very viscous and heavily emulsified, typically
in cold coastal regions.

Secondary Equipment
Booms
Booms can
be stored on deck as free standing rolls or on powered boom
reels. On a catamaran vessel retractable boom arms are fitted
at each bow to increase the encounter rate. These consist
of a rigid tubular arm which at its outward end supports
a length of flexible floating boom, which deflects oil to
the hull tunnel and the recovery equipment. This allows
the vessel to operate at the most efficient speed for recovery
purposes and yet provide a satisfactory oil encounter rate.
Deck Crane
A folding
hydraulic deck crane can be built into the vessel with a
lifting capacity of 2500 kg at a radius of 4.5m. This is
sufficient for the vessel to service itself if no shore
facilities are available.
The crane
would be supplied with hydraulic power from a main engine
driven pump.
The crane
is an integral part of the Force 5 vessel.
Flexible Floating Storage Tanks
“Flexitanks” towed floating
storage tanks enable a recovery vessel to operate independently
for long periods by allowing a number of these Flexitanks
to be stowed on deck and then floated and filled as required,
they are then buoyed off when full for collection at a later
time.
They are available in a variety of sizes
but the most practical and cost effective for this size
of vessel are the 5, 9 and 12.5 cubic metre tanks.
 |
|
As well as flexible storage tanks
the catamaran hulls can provide built in tanks to
store up to 8 cubic metres of on board storage in
each hull. This feature is ideal when clearing smaller
spills.
|
Dispersant Spray Equipment
Provision is made in the design of the
vessel for fitting sockets suitable for locating removable
spray booms.
These spray booms are equipped with wide
angle, controlled droplet size, spray nozzles and they can
be of alternate lengths to give a swathe width of either
18 m or 27 m.
The pump set is self-contained with its
own drive motor and is arranged to dispense either straight
dispersant or a sea water diluted concentrate.
The dispersant will be stored in standard
200 litre drums on deck or in flexible storage tanks.
