'Tank Farm Management' encompasses all necessary operations in order to run an efficient crude oil storage system. Tank Farms exist on pipeline routes, oil terminals and oil refineries as well as other dedicated storage zones.
Operations for the smooth operation of tank farms can be quite complex, especially when dealing with varying types of oil and various levels of pollutants such as sand.
One of the main headaches tank farm operators face is the control of crude oil sludge build up in tanks. In some cases the amount of sludge in 1 tank farm could be equal or above the total volume of 1 whole tank. Routine tank cleaning is required to ensure these levels do not exceed disproportionate levels. Crude oil storage tanks are an essential factor for overall efficiency of refinery throughput.
OPEC has concentrated for a number of years on the development of systems which reduce time spent in cleaning these tanks as well as proactive measures to ensure sludge is never seen as a problem for future operations by eliminating the build up of sludge in the first place.
OPEC can supply a number of technologies and techniques to overcome these potentially very serious operational problems.
